GENERAL INFORMATION:
Prof. Dr. Juergen Staude from the Astrophysical Institute (Potsdam, Germany) will give a course of lectures on the topic of the solar magnetohydrodynamics on Oct 4-7, 2005 at the Astronomical Institute (AISAS) of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Tatranska Lomnica (Slovak Republic).
Course is focused on on basics of MHD and several particular aspects of the MHD as well as. Applications of MHD to the Sun will be covered. As a bonuses there will be lectures on history of solar physics at Potsdam, and on GREGOR - a new 1.5 m solar telescope on Tenerife. Course is prepared for undergraduates but also for PhD students from the institute in Tatranska Lomnica and from both universities in Slovakia where education on astronomy and astropohysics is provided.
This activity is organized (and financed) withing the frame of the of the European Solar Magnetism Network (ESMN) - a collaboration of eleven European solar physics research groups aiming to measure and understand solar magnetism. This activity is funded by grant from the Fifth Framework RTN Programme of the European Commission during November 1, 2002 - October 30, 2006 under contract HPRN-CT-2002-00313 and by the Astronomical Institute (AISAS).
