PREDNASAJUCI / LECTURER : Vojtech Rušin (1) Astronomical Institute, Slovak Academy of Sciences, 059 60 Tatranská Lomnica NAZOV / TITLE : Prominences, sunspots and corona shape ABSTRAKT / ABSTRACT : What is responsible for the shape of the white-light corona as we know it from observations during total solar eclipses? Sunspots or prominences (neither, but large-scale magnetic fields on the Sun)? Is it possible to predict the maximum of the solar activity cycle and its amplitude from the flattening index of the white-light corona as stated by Ludendorff? I am of the opinion that thiscannot be done and I will try to give an answer why not. Or, to put it another way, it is possibleto predict, but it has no scientific basis.
