LSO/AISAS summer internships 2024 - the transportation and cable car tickets

GENERAL INFORMATION:

To reach the LSO you have to use 3 subsequent cable cars. Nevertheless, only two
tickets have to be purchased, one for the first two cable cars and the second
ticket for third cable car:
- ticket 1 = cable car - Tatranska Lomnica (TL) - Start station +
             cable car - Start station - Skalnate Pleso (SP)
- ticket 2 = Skalnate Pleso (SP) to Lomnicky Stit (LS) with place reservation
The ticket 2 has to be purchased well in advance online and the ticket 1 can be
purchased in person on the day of your arrival to TL.

CABLE CAR TICKETS PURCHASE:

- Purchase of the ticket 2 from SKALNATE PLESO (SP) to LOMNICKY STIT (LS):

  1/ at first, buy online the return cable car ticket from SP to LS. The price of
     the ticket could be 55-80 Euro for the 2024 summer season!
   
     Do this well in advance as the cable car is completely occupied during the high
     summer season. So we strongly advice you to check the web page for purchasing the ticket
     a month or two weeks in advance as the reservation system is already now open for the
     whole summer season andto purchase the ticket.

     Procedure of purchasing this ticket in detail:

     - select there in the section "Find your product":
       - 1-day
       - Lomnicky Sit return ticket
       - date
       - 1x adult
     - select there in the section "Details":
       - Skalnate Pleso-Lomnicky stit - return ticket
     - continue in the section "Choose the date and departure time from Skalnaté Pleso"

  2/ Then, inform rybak@astro.sk about your scheduled time of the SP-LS car ticket
     as we need it for managing of your stay at LSO with the cable car staff

- Purchase of the ticket 1 from TATRANSKA LOMNICA (TL) to SKALNATE PLESO (SP):

  1/ travel from home to TL, buy your foodstuff in TL, and move to with all your things
     to the cable car area in TL. Be there at least ~45 minutes
     before the particular time of your scheduled cable car ride from SP to LS.

  2/ visit the INFO centrum in the cable car area in TL and purchase the ticket 2 -
     return ticket TATRANSKA LOMNICA-SKALNATE PLESO (~25 Euro). This ticket is valid
     for 7 days.

TRAVEL BY CABLE CARS TO THE LSO:

  1/ with ticket 2 you can enter the first cable car for the trip
     from station TATRANSKA LOMNICA to station START (~8minutes).
     For the period 29/06-01/09/2024 the orange 6-eat cable lift will be operated
     and since 02/09/2024 the 4-seat gondola cable car will replace it for this
     part of the travel. Both cable cars start close to the INFO centrum.
     Then, at the START station, you have to change the cable car for the second one
     (15-seat gondola) for the trip from station START to station SKALNATE PLESO
     (SP, ~8 minutes). Distance of these cable cars is just ~50m.
   
  2/ At SP you will need to walk for ~100 meters to a huge building of the cable car
     to LS. Please, follow the signs and be present at the entrance to this cable
     car platform not later than 10 minutes before time of your scheduled ticket
     for the SP-LS cable car. Here, you will use the ticket 1 bought in advance
     on-line (SP-LS return ticket).
     The last trip from SKALNATE PLESO to LOMNICKY STIT will take ~8 minutes.

  3/ Reaching the LS by the third cable car and going up additional 62 steps you will come
     to the most upper floor of the cable car building with the caffe. There you can not
     miss the entrance door of the observatory.
     Very probably, I shall wait for you at the LS cable car platform.

TRAVEL FROM THE LSO:

  1/ I shall manage with the cable car staff that you can stay at the LS for days of your
     internship and use the return cable car ride from LS to SP on the morning of the day you
     will select for your departure. (Morning rides are at 09:10, 09:30 or 09:50).
      
  2/ on the return way from SP to TL, you will use the return ticket Tatranska Lomnica -
     Skalnate Pleso - ticket 1. Alternatively, you can hike from SP down to TL or Stary
     Smokovec.
